Thoughtful Thursday: Rating Out of My Demographic

Pam over at Reading Is Fun Again (great blog name) started the new meme to get a few thoughts on a few bookish things.  You know how much I love sharing my thoughts/opinions on stuff, so I thought it would be perfect to add my two cents in too!
I created Thoughtful Thursday, because bookish thoughts kept popping up in my mind while reading, and I wanted to explore these questions and get your opinions too! -From Reading Is Fun Again

Today's Thoughtful Thursday Question

How do you rate books that are out of your age demographic (e.g., an adult rating YA or MG or a YA rating adult or MG)?

My Answer

I have read several books a year that are children picture books, YA (young adult) and even NA (new adult).  I really have enjoyed some of them.  Ok! Most of them.  When I rate them I give them the exact same rating as I would give an adult book in my demographic.  I rate everything equally.  I think I give elementary aged books a harder look because (in my opinion) have to have a moral or purpose for their audience.  I really dislike children books that have no repercussions for bad behavior or no moral structure.  What is the point of a children's book then?
Here are some of my favorite children books.  Click the covers to go to their Amazon page.
